Overstrand Municipality calls on all indigent residents to re-apply and to submit applications as soon as possible. New applications will be implemented as from date of application.
To date, 5 200 indigent applications have been received. Altogether 375 new applications were received during the last week and 131 renewals are being verified.
The 78 incomplete applications forms are causing delays. Please ensure the correct documentation are being submitted.
Councillor Stephen Williams, the Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) responsible for Finance said the following documents are needed when applying for financial support:
- Latest municipal account
- ID of residents older than 18 years
- Copy of the birth certificate of all residents younger than 18 years
- Latest 3 months’ salary/wages slip of each working resident
- Latest 3 months’ bank statements from each working resident
- In the case of no bank account, the client must confirm such with an affidavit
- An affidavit to declare income if you are self-employed
- Proof of all SASSA income
- Affidavit of unemployment and that there is no other source of income
- Divorce order in the event of a divorce
- Death certificate of a co-owner where applicable
Registered indigents in the Overstrand area also receive:
- 10 kiloliters free water
- 50 kWh units free electricity
Affected indigent consumers can visit any of the municipal offices in Gansbaai, Stanford, Hermanus or Kleinmond during the week. Support will also be available on certain dates at various community halls across the Overstrand.
